About the Regions

Welcome to Prince Edward Island- Canada's smallest and tastiest province!

The Flavours Trail is your guide to some of the Island's most unique and exciting culinary attractions. We invite you to explore the Flavours Trail to experience and celebrate the food culture on Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island is divided into five distinct regions. Each region has its own character and culture, that when combined create our Island-wide passion for fresh food, culture, and flavours.

North Cape Coastal Drive

Start your culinary journey with the North Cape Coastal Drive and taste what happens when land meets sea! Home for two of Prince Edward Island's original industries - agriculture and fishing. Experiencing the flavours of PEI can include stopping at a potato stand set up at the end of a farmer's lane or dropping in at the local wharf to pick up the catch of the day. Want to try the bread of the Island's first inhabitants, the Mi'kmaq, called "lusgnign"? Care to taste a part of the rich Acadian culture called "râpure"? Feel brave enough to savour "seaweed pie" or “potato fudge”? The sources of good food are varied and sometimes unexpected when your culinary journey takes you to an area locals refer to as "Up West".

Perfect for scenic touring and picture-perfect photos, you’ll work up an appetite as the warmth of the Island’s rolling terrain surrounds you.

Charlottetown

The birthplace of Canada and the capital of Prince Edward Island, Charlottetown provides a memorable mix of history, theatre, shopping, and tasty dining selections.

Many restaurants are independently owned, allowing talented chefs to use fresh Island ingredients as part of their custom menus. Some restaurants can even be found in heritage buildings, creating an attractive backdrop to the culinary delights on your plate. In one of those heritage buildings is Gahan Beer - PEI's first microbrewery.

When the Fathers of Confederation met at Province House in 1864 to plot out the creation of Canada, they no doubt followed it up with a great meal. When you visit Charlottetown, be certain to follow in their footsteps!
